Sun Microsystems Selects Imation to Provide Customers and Partners with Independent SAN Interoperability Testing

OAKDALE, Minn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 14, 2000--

Leverages Imation's Fully-Equipped Independent SAN Solutions Lab and

New Storage Assessment Services

Imation Corp. (NYSE: IMN) today announced that Sun Microsystems (NASDAQ: SUNW) has selected Imation to provide Sun customers and partners with a range of storage validation services, including interoperability and proof-of-concept testing, utilizing Imation's SAN Solutions Lab.

"Technology alliances with leading storage products and services providers such as Imation are critical to Sun's success in driving the open network storage revolution," said Janpieter Scheerder, president, Sun Network Storage. "Imation's storage validation services help to ensure that our customers achieve the benefits of rapid network storage deployment, including the price-performance advantages of Sun's modular approach to storage systems scalability."

Today's announcement follows Imation's recent launch of its SAN Solutions Lab and Storage Assessment services, where customers can test a variety of multi-vendor configurations to validate interoperability of specific hardware and software configurations. This allows customers to mitigate risk by testing vendor equipment in a non-production environment before they make a purchasing decision.

"Our SAN Solutions Lab brings to the industry Imation's unique ability to provide architecture validation in the increasingly complex arena of storage area networking." said Costa Hasapopoulos, general manager, Imation Data Storage and Information Management Solutions and Services. "We are eager to work with Sun to provide their customers a resource for seamless interoperability testing in heterogeneous environments."

Imation and Sun also recently announced that Imation will develop Jiro(TM) technology-enabled software to facilitate storage management in a multi-vendor environment.
