It's funny how we get polarized about stocks, then argue for them with the same fervor and lack of objectivity as a in a debate about religions.

ALL of the large companies are losing talent in that market because of the IPO feeding frenzy. These people are all leaving to get rich on fat stock option plans (I thought you knew that).

Lucent has been an acqusitive company, and is becoming more so (a la CSCO), so why wouldn't this work for LU as well? Are the entire management at CSCO that different than LUs's? Dont you believe it.

The change from a vertically oriented structure can be done.
The differences in management are not as great as some might think. These guys jump companies so often that the entire industry mentality is homogenized.

When a company perceives that they can can shortcut a technology by acquiring, they do so. It is not a race to prove ego, it is a race to increase earnings.

The nonsense in the article you posted about "hints of panic" makes no sense. Who else has this end-to-end solution right now besides LU? Imagine what a "hint of panic" NT must be then feeling at not having this capability.

I think the most outrageous comment in the article is about LU's lofty PE. How about NT and CSCO, that is lofty!

You say you want to normalize for growth rate? Sure, lets compare PEG, LU on a pro-forma basis has the lowest.

But why am I addressing these points, this is all a religious debate isn't it?

telecomguy, What is your purpose for posting your inconsequential opinions when LU is down? Are you short LU? Otherwise it makes no sense since you have absolutely 0 insight into LU unless it is from a the view of a rival. That view is useless.

Optical sales are ramping up rapidly. the news of this wireless deal is very encouraging. the spin-off of the enterprise business increases the actual growth rate of the remaining pieces to greater than 20%. (any idiot of a writer would have been able to figure that out unless they have an agenda). Lightreading is anti-LU and has been from its' launch. Requoting comments from Levy (Levy is a sheep) is not exactly original. He has been proven wrong time after time with LU (both ways).

Shitting on LU because of an optical acquisition after all of LU's competitors have been doing the same also smells of having an agenda. NT has always been strong in optical networking yet has spent billions more on new start-ups.

The only thing that I have a problem with at LU at this point is that politics is winning or technology...

Now it's time to hear from someone who likes LUCENT.
