I was one and everything you're saying is what I would have liked you to believe because it isn't true at all. A market maker has no power whether they're making a market in options on the floor or making a market in a stock. The very idea of influence must be avoided because it causes you to wander into the Elysian Fields of net non-zero hedged. Any sort of belief that you know where price is going or that you can interfere with it, leads to summary destruction. In order to succeed you have to be a machine and automatically adjust your hedges to the extent required by delta neutral under the execution limitations of the public action. This means there are no tricks and by engaging in tricks, you only trick yourself into shooting yourself in the foot. You won't be hearing many admitting this because it is like patzer public admitting loss publicly. When you're operating in several stocks or in just one you have to do the same mechanical procedure. The procedure is there because the body of theory and experience shows the market walks randomly. Whether any market maker wishes to admit that or not is not relevant, because they have to act as though that is the case since that's the way reality works. When they vary as you suggest they don't last. The bigger the run, the louder the mouth, and the bigger the fall. The sponsor always has to pay for the venture. Neither ELON or any other stock is a candidate for any shenanigans. The deceptions are nothing but myth generated by the enraged public. It's your job to not become one of them and that means giving up these vain conceptions before they take you to ruin if they haven't already. Getting there under such delusion is only a matter of time. This is the universal and unspoken experience. It's unspoken because most in this activity are spineless.
