Hello thread,

RE Toshiba-Rambus agreement

From what I could piece together of the press release, it looks like Toshiba pays royalties to Rambus on almost any kind of memory they produce going forward. There is also a note that rdram licenses would cost less than those for ddr. Would this be enough of an incentive for Toshiba to ramp up RDRAM production, given higher RDRAM manufacture costs, and if so, by how much? Clearly, we need numbers here, and the conference call should give us some clues, I hope.

Looking forward, how much influence does Toshiba have in the PC value chain? Would Toshiba's cheaper rdram convince more box makers to go the rdram way for more boxes - this would increase demand for rdram and the pressure on the other DRAMurai to settle, and at the same time, bring costs down even more.

These are exciting times - here's hoping Intel get their act together in Willamette this fall.

Anand

I guess your options do expire tomorrow. By the time, you get this all figured out you might as well invest in Exxon.

They would have to overturn 90 patents perhaps as many as 180 patents. I do not think that has ever been done.
Not likely that Toshiba will be the one looking foolish.
It could be you....
