Hi X! Thank you for the opportunity to barge in and express a degree of contempt for the legal system. Lawyer jokes are fun but lawyers are only a symptom (symptomatic relief is very dear, though).

In a world where almost any important fact can be found on-line, the court stands pretty much aloof. CA, though, does an admirable job of posting much/most of its legal code on the 'net.

HOWEVER -- the court is anything but citizen friendly. And, I think that sucks. It is, in fact, far too much like a long-ago royal court -- substance (truth) may matter a great deal but only if properly cloaked and enunciated in the style of the realm and the friggin' despot in the black dress.

As I don't tolerate being ****ed with well, I have spent some time in law libraries and courts. The prep is far more tedious than it needs to be but nothing like guessing what quirk lies behind Judge #1, Judge #2 or Judge #3. I did mention that I am not an attorney, right?

I'm not undefeated but almost.

Problem is, standing up for yourself requires a degree of time, and obsession that most people don't have. I don't think that's right.

IMO, the guy stuck with the Public Defender doesn't have the worst of it. Pity the poor middle class slob who has to burn up a lifetime of work and savings (financial death penalty) seeking justice. More than once I've had an attorney tell me, "That's a slam dunk but there isn't enough money for us to get involved."

Goodnight, X. I am too tired at this hour to muster the indignation this subject deserves.

Mike

Seems sensible. I never said I "want" to fry criminals. I have said many times vengence or economy or whatever are very bad arguements for the death penalty. I have simple said that we have no reasonable way to deal with them and you are right it is partly a religious centered view point. You are welcome to keep trying to find solutions. None have worked so far and I don't believe it is a matter of evolving to one that finally works. We were given one and except for the trama (which is more humbling than empowering) of the execution it does the trick.
