>IMO, the guy stuck with the Public Defender doesn't have the worst of it. Pity the poor
middle class slob who has to burn up a lifetime of work and savings (financial death
penalty) seeking justice. More than once I've had an attorney tell me, "That's a slam
dunk but there isn't enough money for us to get involved."<

So if an innocent poor guy gets stuck in prison for 22 years on death row because he had a crummy defender (just read this case last weekend) that's not as bad as losing your assets. You've got a strange sense of what "the worst of it" is. I'd rather lose everything than go to prison, with people thinking I was a murderer, if I was innocent- heck those guys, as a bonus, get to lose everything too! Friends, family, children. But that's ok- "they aren't getting the worst of it". Uh huh.

Look I'm sure the legal system has irritated you. It has bothered me too. But I just can't agree with what you said- and if you really thought about it I don't think you'd agree either.
