Well, I have explained why I think that is where the calibration should be, and you do not agree. I am not sure if we can go anywhere from that point. I cannot feel sheepish that I think that Ted Bundy or Charles Manson deserve to die.

Anyway, the position that you state is not conservative, but libertarian. But since I think it necessary and desirable that the state administer criminal justice, and that particularly heinous crimes result in execution, of course, I think your criteria are met. Again, I will remind you: if life imprisonment is the only adequate response to simple murder, "aggravated" murder must carry a much more sobering penalty, which, it seems to me, is death. Why should we, in any case, care to preserve the person's life?
