One of the Ten Commandments is "Thou Shalt Not Kill." There don't seem to be any loopholes. I can't blame anyone who kills another in self defense, but execution for any other reason is premeditated homicide.

Don't you find it at all interesting that many nations and many states of the US have abandoned capital punishment without suffering any discernable negative consequence? And that those that have restored it have not gained any discernable benefit?

I am not asking if State killing is "just" in the abstract, or if it is defensible. I am asking if it is necessary, for tangible reasons.
