LU has had every banker on wall street in pitching this spin-off.

Sheer short term greed.

Bell Labs research is leveraged into both equipment and ME - spinning out ME means breaking up the Labs.

Unspeakable. Absolutely, positively unspeakable.

The spin-off of the component division is precisely what LU needs to succeed long term. Both companies will fare far better than they will together. Many of the components LU sells are sold to competitors... they will get better traction if they are separated from the systems business. The systems business will be free to look for best of breed component technology and not feel tied to the component business.... This is not something that should take much thinking.. Pull the trigger.
