So you may understand my concern:

I have personally seen people die while doctors scratched their heads, only to find the cause once it was too late. They assumed it couldn't be so and so, so never checked.

12. I do not understand this thread at all. In one note, E speaks of my absurd self-righteousness and, a cpla notes latter posts me a sweetness and light message. I do not understand Terry's insistence on winning first place in Name The Disease. I do not understand the flock-like cuddling around Claudia. Seeing this life-friend's deep concern, love, respect, all that stuff directed straight-on at Monica, and seeing some of the enterprises that have arisen about the matter on the thread is seeing two entirely different things.

Thanks very much for the information, update and your impressions. At least I feel better about the hospital.

George,

Thank you for being the "eyes" of many of us who are not in the NYC area, and cannot easily visit her.

One question that had occurred to me though, was that upthread, someone mentioned that Edwarda had a pet, a cat I believe. Has anyone been to her residence to check on the welfare of her beloved animal, or perhaps one of the relatives is tending to the cat's needs? I know it seems trivial to ask, but I'm 100% sure that even in her current condition, Edwarda cares for her furry companion's needs.

KJC

George,
It sounds, to me, that she is in the wrong kind of hospital. With the door being slammed in your face because you spoke to another doctor, indicates that there are petty jealousies, and no telling what else, going on there instead of intensive treatment for their patient, and our friend. I don't like the sound of what I heard at all.

BTW, for all of you on this thread, I have prayed for her full return to health, and will continue to do so, every day. Even those of you that do not believe in God, if you would say an earnest prayer for someone, I believe He loves, He will listen. None of us can know what His decision will be but, I feel sure that she will be with Him, one way or the other. Either in life or in death, I believe she is one of His.

George, there are actually two cousins, Maureen and Eileen, who are tending to matters. JLA arrived at the hospital about 3, and consulted for some time with them, then all three of them with the doctor. I got off the phone with him a few minutes ago.

Edwarda is very weak, and appears to have some sort of abdominal infection, although they have still not identified it. Most of her organs are compromised. They have run just about every test they can think of. Basically, the intention is to keep her alive until she either spontaneously recovers, or they identify the illness and determine a course of treatment. She is relatively stable since yesterday: some things are better, some are worse, so it is a "draw". The biggest concern is her weakness, which makes even simple procedures dangerous.

On the other hand, it was JLA's impression that she responded to them being in the room, after he had said something to her, so she may not be fully unconscious. The nurses said that she was talking, although sometimes confusedly, until a couple of days ago. There may be some fight left.

The other hopeful news is that, according to the cousins, the hospital she is in has an excellent reputation, and is part of the Beth Israel complex of hospitals. JLA himself was impressed by the facilities, and liked the doctor he talked to. Edwarda appears to have health insurance, although JLA is going to check on the status, and take care of some other outstanding business in cooperation with the cousins.

JLA did suggest that they might get the Center for Disease Control involved, due to the mysterious nature of the disease, but is not sure they will take that suggestion.

I am the one who contacted the old friend, and I have sent messages to assorted friends by culling addresses from e-mails that Edwarda sent to me and others simultaneously.

JLA will be meeting with the cousins, and then the sister, tomorrow morning, and will try to call me in the early afternoon. If there is anything worth reporting, I will do so..........

WOW George, you're a Class Act! But for God's sake see about that cat - that would be the first thing she would be concerned about, phone the landlord or the humane society or someone.
