6/16/00 - Test Center: PC Expo's Reality Check

Jun. 16, 2000 (Computer Reseller News - CMP via COMTEX) -- New York - Solutions for solution providers are on tap for the
third annual CRN Test Center at PC Expo. Nearly 40 new products will be tested live during the show from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
June 27-29.

Ten CRN Test Center engineers at the Crystal Pavilion at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York will deliver in-depth
analyses of the products' value to solution providers and customers. Product managers and company executives also will speak
about partner programs and product positioning.

In addition to live product tests, John Yacono, CRN Test Center director and Ultimate PC guru, will build the Ultimate PC each
day at noon. The audience is invited to quiz him on his choice of parts.

This show's monster machine rests on a 1GHz Pentium III and two Seagate Cheetah drives-including one 15,000 rpm drive-for
more than 85 Gbytes of storage and 256 Mbytes of Rambus memory. The flat-panel display includes a TV tuner and infrared
remote.

Other special events scheduled for 10 a.m. each day include a June 27 technology briefing on the Palm platform, where the
CRN Test Center will examine three competing Palm offerings; a debate of executives of three major ASP vendors on June 28;
and a June 29 briefing on LAN telephony called "The Telephone In The Network."

The CRN Test Center kicks off at 9 a.m. June 27 with a demonstration of the new Compaq Photon, a dual 800MHz Pentium III
server as thin as a pizza box. Other major product demonstrations include the Small Business Suite 5.1, an upgrade of the
venerable small-business networking package by Novell, and Computer Associates' ARCserve 2000.
