Lincoln kept the Union together, which was the primary duty. It was not an abolitionist crusade, but a putting down of rebellion....I mentioned the reasons that a non- slave owner might still fight to retain the right to own slaves. You have not addressed that, but tried to smear others........

There is no legal mechanism to secede from the Union in the Constitution, from which I infer that secession was not legal. Nor was it moral, as it plunged the nation into war to preserve the rights of slaveholders. Therefore, there is nothing to celebrate, except the valor of some misguided people, like Robert E. Lee........
