Actually my question is, how is their health relative to the competition? They seem to be improving the bottom line at about $.05 to $.1 a quarter, but if the competition is already profitable and expanding, WFR could start falling seriously behind, if they aren't already. If WFR is the laggard in quality, WFR may only do well at the very peaks of the cycle when other suppliers can not deliver.

Hi Dick,

Well, I don't work for Bio-Rad anymore and I've lost touch with the activity at the "front end" of the industry. I've switched to the "back end" now in assembly and test area. I did do some checking and find that you can get some good clues from watching what happens at ADEX. 300mm is finally beginning to generate some revenues for wafer makers. I think it's still another 8-12 months before the crunch hits and some real margin gains can be made. Although people keep talking wafer shortage, die shrinks are more than offsetting "acreage" demands and the story doesn't have a happy ending any time soon.

When ADEX starts reporting a profit and gets a fat book to bill, that'll mean the 300mm business is getting ready to take off.

Good Luck
