Mag,

Agree on what drives Tiger. Byron Nelson had a nice quote in this months Golf Magazine. In response to the question if Tiger could be the best player ever Byron said, "Definitely. Before he is done definitely. Jack Nicklaus is the best we have seen so far. But Tiger is so driven. Fabulously wealthy, yet he competes like he hasn't got a dime. Also, he's getting more comfortable being No. 1".

I look at the scores from the field and one thing you don't hear this year like you heard last year at the British is that the course is too tough. Nope, that one won't fly this year. Grin and bear it.

Now for some Random Thoughts part 98,754.

Jesper? Self destructed. The top putter on tour couldn't drop the easy ones. KFE, I request that you don't allow me to pick him for the British. Thanks.

Jiminez? Still sick of it dude? Get used to it, and remember it ain't braggin if you can do it.

Faldo, congrats. He will be back next year and I am glad. This guy grooms just for the majors and he was always good to watch. He is still too young to be out of it for good. I don't know much about how his game will fit with next years majors, but I like seeing him back in form a bit. Still I never would have picked him before this week. I think he will be back and will get one more major before its over (provided Tiger is sick that week!).

Hogan Apex Plus forged irons. If these had Dynamic Gold shafts then this would be one fine club. Great solid hits and by far the best ball flight for any forged club that I have hit...for the non-forged player. Mizunos are still pretty tough to beat, but I don't want to hit them everyday. Too much like work for me.

The new 845 E-25 forged irons. Fred Couples and Doug Toole are playing them. I like them and think they are a very nice bridge club between cast and forged. Very easy to aim and the ball flight is very true. A little shorter than my cast, but very consistant. I am thinking this might be my next purchase for a second set of clubs. Got to play a couple of rounds with a demo set, and I was very impressed.

Played yesterday with the number one ranked high school player in my city. Youth, what can you say? Anyway, the kid wants to skip college and go for the junior tour. I said to him, why not get a free ride, drink, chase the opposite sex for four years, and ah get a degree...just in case you are say in a accident that breaks your wrist or something. He had never thought of that. Raw power and a nice touch around the greens. I got a few tips watching this kid play. Too bad he has not read page one of the Rules of Golf. For as good a player as he was, he didn't have a clue about good form when not playing. He actually walked up and stood on the blue tee box while the foursome in front of us hit off the whites. Also the wedge tapping that Tiger started has its down side as he practiced this useless skill at every stop. Hopefully someone will fill him in. Not my job.

Have a good one all. I am picking Tiger five times for the British. That could be a real low total for the next contest.

TH

Speaking of breaking records, I'm curious what the thread thinks about Tiger hitting an iron off 18? Assuming he knew the all-time record of -13 was within grasp, was sticking to the gameplan on the final hole with the championship well in hand a bit shortsighted?

Wonder what a young Nicklaus would have done in the same situation?
