Thurston,

Jesper? Self destructed.

I think that it had more to do with being paired with Tiger the first two rounds. He came in playing at the top of his game and was probably very self confident that he could contend. His confidence had to be destroyed when he saw that Tiger was playing at a level that was not possible for him to compete against. I've seen Tiger do this before. A friend of mine was low national qualifier for the US Amateur the year after Tiger won his first Amateur. Defending champ and lowest qualifying score are paired for the first two rounds of play. His ball striking was pure going into the tournament but after seeing Tiger play he felt inadequate and was just trying to stay out of his way. There were some short par four holes (300-320) that Tiger just took out his 3 wood and bombed a towering shot that landed softly on the green on the fly.

Most of the top players say that they are not playing for the money but rather for victories. They better re- evaluate that or look for something else to do.

Regards,

Ken
