a massive and pervasive reduction in RETAIL PC sales during the last two months.

Earlie, won't the spin doctors just put out the usual song and dance routine about seasonal factors? You know, how the first half of the year is always slow & great things will happen in the fall?

Earlie, My parents just bought a raz-a- mataz computer from Dell. I am now getting an email a day from them but not to worry, I just pick up the phone to answer them. <g> PS our company just bought 2000 new Compaq computers with the 17" monitors so we can all watch Rambus go up $25 a day. My guess is at around 10 am tomorrow "rambut" should be shorted. We will see if the old rule 3 days and it peaks sill works . [how silly of me........the old rules don't work in the "new economy"] <gg> Tks e

Earlie, re: i815 intro.
While the Intel i815 announcement today doesn't appear to be accompanied by industry announcements, a check of the Compaq and IBM sites indicates they are quietly transitioning to the i815. For example, the Compaq DeskPro EN series is now i815E based, replacing 440/820 chip sets. And all of the IBM PC300GL PC's now support PC133. IMO, Rambus' value hinges on the validity of their IP in the SDRAM space. The reaction of the memory chip industry, (either way), will be the next big story.

In the fwiw column, we see a move in several cos. we visit to more and more laptops (often DELL). In some cases, they uses "docks" at work for keyboard and screens. In one start-up, everyone is issued a Dell laptop. We haven't figured out exactly why this trend is emerging (though it does make for a less cluttered desktop).

earlie, been shopping for a couple refurbed notebooks for the mrs and a friend. i've been watching some gtw's go for about $800 for three weeks or so until some morons bid them up to $1250 out of the blue (what is that about fools and their money? ;-). anyway, i haven't gotten my price point yet... but i will ;-)

i began looking at refurbed desktops b/c my friend may get my oold destop instead. i'vwe noticed 2 things:

1. for about $600 you get a 500+ processor, 128 mb dram, dvd, cd-rw, 8 mb video ram - a LOT of features!

2. hewlett packard's service is being raked through hot coals. people hate hp. REALLY, they do. i'm scared to pick one up since their lack of service appears to be beyond reproach. what a FALL from grace, huh...

can't say i'm into cpq much more... i'll have to keep shopping... for now...
