<< What this really gets down to is that AMD originally stated they would likely be able to use Alpha chipsets and MBs and when I point this out you guys don't want to hear it. >>

If I recall correctly you said that the Intel 1 ghz chip was not deffective since it runs with in the specs of the company which say no SMP. The Athlon would fit even better in this category since all of the chips have the same spec as far as SMP goes.

Funny that you would hold 2 companies to a different standard, and then have the audacity to complain that you are being held to an unfair standard compared to other posters. Here's my standard, everyone else here has their money where their mouth is. You clearly do not.

As far as the actual issue goes, I don't see how you can claim the chip is deffective for not working in a dual alpha motherboard unless it first works in a single athlon motherboard. (maybe it does, in which case I'd agree with you).

Ewww, Mr. "1 million processors/week from a single fab" is calling us lame. Whatever, Elmer. As for the issue of Alpha boards, for crying out loud, who cares? Intel couldn't even keep s/370 stable for 6 months, cumines wouldn't work with celery boards, and you go blathering on and on about some ancient hypothetical compatibility with mobo's available in minuscule quantities?

Cheers, Dan.

Elmer, re:<AMD originally stated they would likely be able to use Alpha chipsets and MBs>

AMD did NOT say that this was LIKELY. In fact, the quote YOU provided says only that it is "conceivable" and it "might" happen. Heres the quote:

Greg Favor, a senior fellow at AMD, said that conceivably this might mean that the K7 and Alpha processors would achieve a certain level of compatibility...

My guess is that implementing EV6 exactly the way API and Digital did may have been either 1)expensive or 2)performance-robbing.
