Kemble - re: "Looks like another reseller of CPQ is a casualty to the direct model..." - more than you realize - I guess you forgot this recent history. Inacom bought Vanstar, another one of the CPQ channel partners. Then CPQ bought the entire hardware and distribution side of Inacom's business - all that was left of Inacom after that was a service business. This was one way out of the channel versus direct conflict - buy the channel's distribution and use it to sell direct.

By the way, Inacom also did assembly for DELL and HP - not sure exactly what the DELL connection was but at the time CPQ acquired that part of Inacom's business, DELL said they would be looking to other partners to do whatever Inacom was doing for them.
