I think many Germans "believed" it was fair- and they didn't really think about it too much. That's why it is always dangerous to accept what your society (whatever that society is) tells you without evaluating it for yourself.

At the time it was occurring however most Germans were focused on the attractive idea of a German order dominating in the world. Very much like the Westward expansion of the United States and the consequencial treatment of the American Indians.
