The kind of reaction to new technology that I described may or may not be found at large companies. Most of the IT people at these large old economy companies are paid a salary and don't get much in the way of stock options. Their interests are not necessarily coincident with the interests of the stockholders. The same might hold true for any new technology introduction, but this one directly affects them. It's hard to get a major change underway in companies like this, especially if the present processes are still functional. Improvements in efficiency may not enough to overbalance the inherent conservatism. That's why most have limited their CTXS exposure to pilot programs. It gives them a chance to tell upper management that they are working toward solving present cost problems without really committing themselves. Most of them didn't reach their present positions by taking risks and being innovative.
How much will all this matter? I guess it depends on the degree of pain over the costs of their present fat client systems.
