You are right of course. She has to have many skills.

It is a matter of degree though, and I don't think that her forte is the intricacies of the financials or the business end.

She surely picked up a lot as she climbed to executive level.

Have you seen how CEO are sometimes picked for large multinational corporations based on simply their celebrity in the industry.

Some examples; ex-astronauts who headed airlines, military leaders who headed car companies, etc.

Their main draw to the company was the ability to represent that company in front of the public, and to publicize them.

This is often the only criteria to sit on the board of directors (look at the number of famous people who draw salaries just to have their name on the boards).

Have you noticed that she does the TV commercials for HP herself? That was not because they couldnt find actors to make commercials. She knows her strengths.

My point was actually only that LU's problems had nothing to do with her leaving. I believe that she was easily replaced as an administrator.

She had enough good business sense to leave Lucent when she did.
