Thurston,

Those guys in the cars at 4 am. Are you one of those guys?

Not for several years, my back couldn't take sleeping in the car. If you get there at 4 AM you won't be playing the Black course because you are at least four hours too late. If you want one of the walk up times for the Black (six for the first hour and one each hour after that) you have to get there before midnight during the week and about 3 PM the day before on weekends. Some college kids are making $200 a foursome to wait in car line.

I play in a club of mostly low handicap golfers and we usually have no problem with someone getting through on the phone reservation system for tee times. Some people are just luckier than others ;-)

Cable systems in NYC don't carry the Golf Channel yet so I did not see the program.

How about the ones that say they have four in the car, but really only have two. Again, busting a gut. And the guy who dressed up his golf bag as a player, or brought a dummy along.

Been there, done that and don't want to ever have to do it again.

Just finished my fourth day of playing seven days in a row. Missed qualifying for the USGA Publinx finals by two shots today. Couldn't get the job done on the greens coming in. Never have been to Oregon and would have like to qualify. I am very jealous of these college kids who just get up and pop the putt in the back of the hole. Looking forward to the Mid Amateur where at least you have to be shaving to play.

Regards,

Ken

Thurston/Thread,

Looking for advice on lowering my scores. Typical round (sometimes better/sometimes worse):

1 Birdie = -1
6 Pars = 0
7 Bogies = +7
2 Double B's = +4
2 Triple B's = +6
Result = 16 over

Obviously I play 14 holes @ 6 over; 4 holes @ 10 over. But I can't seem to eliminate the blow up holes.

Anybody have any mental tricks to maintain concentration, or course management suggestions, to help improve this spoil of a good walk?

John
