Re Dan Gillmors article on the 1GB microdrive

As you said, we are all entitled to our opinions. Which is what his article is, rather than anything new or factual. Essentially (as he pretty much admits) he's awed because its reached a nice big round number. Had the 1GB drive been a 0.83 GB drive he probably wouldnt have written the article, but essentially nothing would have changed.

As he points out, put storage in things and there is more you can do with them. Yep. But that argument holds whatever the storage mechanism.

What he doesnt mention is reliability,power consumption and most importantly, absolute cost (not cost per MB). Without taking these into consideration, the drive will collide with reality and come off worse.
