Ten,
I find it amazing that the street did not award Intel better today for the extra $1.322B added to their cash position (2.3-0.725-0.253). As an Intel investor I am very happy that they invested available cash smartly instead of gaining only interest income. With the proceeds they can get another fab (or 60% of it) which will add to their top and bottom lines.
And the book value got a boost. INTC is getting a better cash machine every quarter.
I think that we are witnessing a process of shaping up a new business model in which an aggressive VC activity is bootstrapping the business a company is in. We are seeing the same happening at CSCO, MSFT, SUNW, ORCL, DELL, HWP and many others.
Wall Street is not certain how to measure those VC activities because they can not be accurately forcast. I have a hint: guys, look at $$$ made not at $$$ forcast!
And if you see them made for goodness sake be happy!

Let us just imagine that Intel warns that the investment activities over last Q created a loss of 1.3B. My guess is that INTC would tank by 20% after releasing the news. Am I missing something here? I know that the $1.322B is going to another section of the income statement but I always thought that making big bucks is good for Wall Street.
