twillowy, your post is right on. I think there has been so much made by the analysts about Intel's VC, possibly as a shady thing that might help make the earnings, or cook the books, that any mention of it, whether it's + or - bucks, is construed as somehow crooked. After all is said and done, however, who wouldn't want that extra BILLION bucks or so in the bank, for development, or fabs, or Ten's ultimate workstation. :-)

Tony

twillowy re <<I find it amazing that the street did not award Intel better today for the extra $1.322B added to their cash position >>

That "cash" did not come out of no where. Intel has had it for a long time, it just used to be in an equity form. The market has known about this, it is just the timing of selling that equity is what the news was about.

INTC's value did go up due to the rise in the price of RMBS, the linux plays and the broad band plays. Why should it go up again.

Re <<Let us just imagine that Intel warns that the investment activities over last Q created a loss of 1.3B. My guess is that INTC would tank by 20% after releasing the news. >>

No way! If Intel was down 1.3 Billion in its equities, its price probably would be lower and the news would have little impact on it. The street would already know that.

Intel's VC work has been very good and its shareholders have already benefited from that. Today's news was not news.
