What I meant was that bumping investment income by 1.6B does not make sense in the context of covering earnings shortfall. (By the way I expect Intel's operational earnings, especially on the IABG side, to fall short of expectations. I wonder why the analysts are falling all over themselves to upgrade earnings this quarter. I think the chances of lot of analysts having egg-on-their face yet again is extremely high.)

This may have been an ill-planned or unplanned oe well-planned move - there can be several reasons why this may have happened.
