ALCATEL INSTALLS 3G TRANSIT SWITCHES FOR FRANCE TELECOM ALCATEL INSTALLS 3G TRANSIT SWITCHES FOR FRANCE TELECOM (The following is a reformatted version of a press release issued by Alcatel.) Alcatel ships first 3G national transit switches to France Telecom Paris, June 22 -- Alcatel has recently installed third generation national transit switches (CTN3G) for France Telecom. Inaugurated in Lyon and Lille in March 2000, the switches are the first of a series that Alcatel will install on France Telecom's network in the course of 2000 and 2001. The CTN3G family has been developed from the Alcatel 1000 MM (Multimedia Multiservice) E10, which integrates an ATM matrix. In addition to handling voice communication, the CTN3G has been optimized to handle data, which now accounts for the bulk of long distance traffic owing to the success of the Internet. The Alcatel 1000 MM El0 system is based on a new technological platform that delivers the substantial capacities needed for CTN3G applications. These include the ability to support up to 16,000 PCMs (Pulse Code Modulation) and a switching capacity of between 2,500,000 and 8,000,000 BHCAs {Busy Hour Call Attempt), depending on the percentage of Intelligent Network (IN) calls. The CTN3G is a key component of Next-Generation Networks (NGNs). The Alcatel 1000 MM E10 offers a full range of services that can be easily customized thanks to its Intelligent Network platform. And with redundant architecture and accurate diagnostic software, the system is remarkably easy to operate and maintain. The Alcatel 1000 MM El0 also has the smallest footprint and lowest energy consumption in the market. Alcatel has already supplied second-generation national transit switches for the entire France Telecom network. About Alcatel: Alcatel builds next generation networks, delivering Integrated end-to-end voice and data networking solutions to established and new carriers, as well as enterprises and consumers worldwide.
