objecting to the comparison of vouchers with the appeasement of Hitler at Munich No analogy is perfect. I should say my image of you is a person isolated in the Northeast corridor thinking the sun rises in New York City and sets in Washington DC. I don't think you have any idea the type of in your face religion is found outside the big established protestant, catholic and jewish communities that surround you. I know I find Iowa a breath of fresh air. I call them fundies mostly because there is no one particular sect or branch to hang a label on. These are groups of Southern Babtist, Church of Christ, and Penticost for the most part, but not every congregation from any sect and some that make up their own affiliation. No central authority or structure so they rely on charismatic individuals for leadership. The leadership in turn requires conflict, a good fight with Satan, to keep the flock in line and the coffers full. The net result is they won't just go away and leave people alone. They're always launching boycotts of the supermarket because the offer a free magazine with movie reviews and ads for same sex singles. They don't just boycott, no that would be too quiet, they form big pools of people outside the store and stand between the store and the customers and say Youre going to HELL if you go in for bananas today!. Read the accounts of Buchanan's road to the reform party nomination, and the tactics, and realize that he has copied them from the fundies. Give them vouchers and they will just use them to buy pig guts which they throw at anyone in the vicinity of a family planning center and say they are fetus parts. No, I don't know the solution but appeasement is not a part of it. What's needed is more lawsuits like the one in Santa Fe Tx. TP
