TH,

Speaking of beginners, two stories and a question from one day of golf.

I took a good friend to my course this morning. He's been at golf for about 6 months, and to put it mildly has his problems. He starts his back swing with his wrists, and goes almost straight up, with a downswing, of course, down on the ball. Needless to say, not very predictable or effective.

The weird thing is, he has taken many lessons from a golf pro at a driving range. He swears this is what the guy is teaching him. Poor guy is hitting balls on the renge three days a week, to no effect. And this guy is very athletic.

Second story, on number eight, he hits a hard slice. There is only one house on this hole, and we hear a sickening thunk. Broken 8 foot tall, tinted window. Owner comes out and she is very gracious, and of course my friend will pick up the bill, but you still feel like an idiot. The house has been there for 4 years, first time for a broken window.

Question, from one perspective this guy should not really be on a golf course, he is close to dangerous. On the other hand, if he can only hit balls on the range, he is going to lose interest in game. What to do?

It was sort of a nightmare round, I didn't get a chance to follow all the good advice from the thread. Tomorrow, in the quota game, I'll pay more attention.

John
