I wonder what happened to Marci Burstiner. Did her job blow up with her bearishness on Rambus?

The Night Watch: Get Out of the Way -- Rambus Is Comin' Through

If Rambus (RMBS:Nasdaq - news) were a betting man instead of a sassy semiconductor company, he would be feeling pretty lucky right now.

Last week it roared higher when Toshiba (TOSBF:Nasdaq - news) expanded its licensing of Rambus' memory chip technology.

The lucky streak continued after the bell when the company announced another victory. Hitachi (HIT:NYSE ADR - news) signed a patent license agreement for the same Rambus memory technology in a gesture that settled the dispute out of court. The patent spat ended when Hitachi agreed to pay an up front settlement fee and quarterly royalty payments.

Analysts believe that tonight's news will encourage other companies to license the Rambus technology.

The habitual spotlight stealer was one of the most actively traded stocks during the day with 22 million shares exchanged and showed off at night by leaping an incredible 41 17/128 to 138 49/128 on a whopping 2.17 million Island shares. The stock settled only 4.8% higher during the day session.

Last week the company announced a 4-for-1 stock split, creating more room to travel higher. (A stock split creates no new stock, of course, but most traders view it as a positive move.)

"Micron spokeswoman declined to discuss if Rambus and Micron were in settlement talks".

Man, wouldn't I like to be a fly on that wall. This isn't a game of Texas Hold'em anymore. Rambus has four aces.

Sherry Garber's "shocked" attitude is a little disingenuous. She hopes the memory industry doesn't capitulate to an IP house. For heaven's sake.....Rambus is part of the memory "industry", and the rest of the industry is using their property. Come on, Sherry...game's over.

"I'm even more shocked," said Sherry Garber, an analyst at Semico Research, Phoenix. "It's certainly good news for Rambus stock, as a lot of announcements have been...but I really hope that the DRAM industry doesn't capitulate to an [intellectual property] house."

Translation: "I hope I get to keep my job after missing this call so badly." <G>
