It was a movie, yes. A documentary. I'm not sure how close Adams got, but he was exonerated in the end, although the prosecutors wouldn't admit to any wrongdoing and wanted to retry him. Cooler heads prevailed, though.

If only it were that easy. No doubt a number of altruistic people would be willing to sacrifice their own life to save the lives of others. But the bargain you are making is to kill another person, not yourself, to save others. Will you let me kill your son or wife or mother to save those others? I think not . . . And, no, you may not kill my innocent sons or my husband or my family to save others.
