Hi Mike:
Lets lay some words on non-believers, try to discourage some overleveraged bears .(G)
The official, unadulterated Dell Venture site:
dell.com
Dell Ventures invests in the Intel 64 Fund , which is a fund in itself, and I think Medilogic could be big as it
permits moving patient records over the Internet.Big on wireless items also.
IMO Dell itself could be the next Dell, which would be a
surprize to many except Kemble, since any of the Ventures could can have exceptional growth.
As a rough calculation, Dell has managed to expand the workforce by 50% and facilities by 40% in the past year and still has ~$8 bil left over for purposes such as this and has stated they will continue to add to Dell ventures funds which I think contributed 3 cents to last quarter earnings.
All signs point to a continued move of business to the Web .
Auto companies and suppliers, oils, airlines, chemicals, and metal companies are setting up procurement or reservation systems on the Web. They will need higher level devices than Palm Pilots and set-top boxes to do that. They may need more and better breeds of the supposedly vanishing desk-mounted computers. And lots of storage somewhere in the system.
Summary:
It does not seem wise to put a limit (30%)on what Dell
can do. The antiquated "just another box-maker, anybody can do" it argument is gone, as is the argument that computer sales growth is slowing to( 17%?) a year. The 30% growth estimate is solid base( should please most investors) G.
Discussions at the shareholders meeting (less than 4 weeks away) cover the subjects of where Dell has been and where they are going. Could be interesting. Wagons Hooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
