Yep. Brinker said there is almost zero chance of this downturn ending this fall. He said there is no way at this juncture to determine the eventual bottom. He said, now we are looking forward to 2001 or 2002 for that nadir.

What amazes me is that almost nobody can believe this.

'What? You mean we have a bear market? You mean--you're nuts!!!--it won't end until next year? Next year? You must be crazy because look how well the market is doing. You know, the really important stocks like the Naz 100. And, that 2002 turn-around is just plain crazy! It can't happen because this is the era of the internet explosion.'

If the bear marked lasted into 2002, it would not be unusual from an historical perspective. From the perspective of shaking out all the excess of the past several years, it could very well go until then....or longer. I cannot imagine this bear market will be anything other than a wholesale collapse of stock prices. When Stewart looses his capital and still owes margin, and, he has lost his job in the photocopy room, how soon do you think he'll be ready to jump back in?
