>I've kept telling friends since before EURO 2000's start that the Dutch are gonna scoop the pool in this championship...

We 'll see about that. If they can do it, hats off to them...but so far, based on their history, they always manage to get near to the goal of doing something big, but never actually doing it.

>Of course, the French are favorites but so far, their "credentials" basically rest on their 1998 Mundial performance.

I think the French still have the best team and the Dutch are very close. I hope they make it to the final and play a classic game.

>Yesterday, the French struggled to get rid of the Spaniards.

Yes they did a bit. But the Spaniards are even more bizzare of a team than the Yugos.Got through, Raul goes home again disgraced.

>Meanwhile, the Dutch walk the Euro 2000, no sweat.... playing at home --and remember, Holland already beat France 3-2!

Hahahahahahahaha...That was the B team France brought in to play this meaningless game and the Dutch still barely beat them!

>Scoring THREE goals against the French is even more impressive than a whitewash against those Yugo twits....

The Yugos laid an egg at the last game and were clearly outplayed by a superior team, no doubt about it. The score was a bit harsh and it was not clearly their day. But, still, they made it through the first round and they clearly belong in the best 8 teams of Europe! With referees' prejudice against them and constant red/yellow cards showering them, the Yugos showed the GREATEST heart of all teams in decades for coming back from a 3-0 deficit with a man down to tie the game! Then they played one of the greatest games in history against Spain! They had a great tournament and achieved a lot...too bad they had to end it with a 6-1 defeat...oh well, life goes on. MIssion accomplished, a country so badly wounded by endless sanctions and vicious bombing agains showed that they can stil manage to put together a team that is one of the eight best in Europe and Milosevic one of the top goal scorers! Meanwhile, Belgians still suffer from nightmares dominated by images full of Turkish stuff....Hahahahahahaha....

Imperialism on the Soccer Field:

NATO values on the soccer field

The behavior of NATO leaders like Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Tony Blair is mirrored in the behavior of many fans. Who are the most notorious soccer hooligans? Is it a coincidence that they come from England, Germany and Holland? Does the behavior of soccer fans from these self-proclaimed civilized countries reflect the colonial history and current behavior of these countries whose leaders stomp around the world bombing anyone who will not kiss their boot? Why is it that smaller, oppressed nations like Yugoslavia and Romania, nations that always get negative press coverage, why is it that they don't have soccer fans instigating fights where people get maimed or killed? As I mentioned, the teams from these 'backward' countries play a much more sophisticated style of soccer and the fans have more dignity. Does thuggish militarism spawn thuggish culture?
