That is a painful realization for me.

I think that the issue of brand recognition
could be inexpensively addressed by some snappy
packaging and promotion of the idea that storage
is highly personal and highly personalizable.
The marketing campaigns that come to mind are Iomega's
promotion of Zip, the Swatch Watch craze of the
late 70's and 80's, and Absolut Vodka's print advertising.

I think that brand promotion could be done very
cheaply now that we have shelf space and high
visibility at most electronics retailers.

Did you ever see a Swatch TV advertisement?

Neither did I. People just bought them because
they created the market that was previously dominated
by Timex and their lackluster offerings.
