hey don't have healthcare now, and I don't see them spreading diseases throughout the land, or alleyways jammed with corpses!

They do get healthcare now. Ask anyone who works in an emergency room: indigents use emergency rooms, which can't turn people away, as outpatient clinics. They don't do anything until they're really sick, then they stagger into the ER and get treated without paying. Unfortunately, ER care is extremely expensive, and somebody has to eat the cost and pass it on to those who do pay. It would be much cheaper to have free primary care clinics.

I wasn't talking about universal insurance, BTW, just a basic safety net of free clinics where uninsured sick people who don't have money can get basic care before they end up in the ER.
