Itanium (Merced) is a lost cause.

Bad conclusion.

Re: "I used the numbers on the Moldyn Benchmark 86.02, 102% of a 550MHz Celeron performance. Thus a 1GHz PIII would match up to a 1.5GHz Williamette. Or slower than a 800MHz Classic Athlon"

Well Pete I can see you're just too sharp a guy to let anything slip past you. I guess the cat is out of the bag now. Yes, Willamette performs like a 550MHz Celeron because it's really intended to replace the Celeron, with a hit in performance but after all, that can't be helped. In essence it IS the new Celeron. You're just too sharp a cookie for Intel to try and fool. We should have known that when you posted Katmai SPEC benchmarks to prove CuMine performs slower than Athlon. You're one sharp guy!!!

Pete - RE: "I used the numbers on the Moldyn Benchmark 86.02, 102% of a 550MHz Celeron performance. Thus a 1GHz PIII would match up to a 1.5GHz Williamette. Or slower than a 800MHz Classic Athlon. No reported benchmarks on Thunderbird or Duron yet (at least on the Moldyn page)."

Don't put much faith in benchmarks done on a preproduction processor. Last year, a website tested a preproduction Athlon and the scores showed a K6-III had faster FPU. Of course, we now know this would never happen.

Here is the site I am talking about - firingsquad.gamers.com

Some people believed those benchmarks were what the Athlon was really capable of and got their hopes up that Intel would easily roll over the Athlon, even though it was tested on a preproduction processor. They got a BIG surprise when the Athlon officially came out.

And who might JC be?

Another pimply AMD gamer cheerleader ?

Re: "Itanium (Merced) is a lost cause. "

No kidding - that explains why HP and Compaq and IBM are prepping those SludgePumper servers from AMD. You've seen these endorsements haven't you?

Re: "the introduced Celeron 700 is looking to be "sucking wind" against the Duron 700, even when overclocked. "

That's true - but the 700 MHz Celron is OUTSHIPPING the Duron by a wide margin.
