If you happened to listen to the T-beam/LU conference call, that's about the extent of the public information (which was pretty minimal--lots of handwaving and tap dancing). Nothing QUANTITATIVE at all. The patent application actually would be about the most information I've seen, but even that does a lot of handwaving.

The point-to-multipoint claims--and the way I see this continually touted as such a big deal--is pretty curious. It is a laser *BEAM* after all, so the way it reaches all these multiple points is no different from the way a network of cables reaches multiple points (multiple individual branches).

Not the same concept as the point to multipoint "ether" of a satellite broadcast or even wireless non-optical. In other words, if some point in the future there is some good reason to provide multicast or node broadcast capabilities, I see no reason why the other O/W players couldn't do it too. To me it seems like a lot of ergs (both marketing and technical) expended on a mode with little present use. Last time I checked multicast wasn't exactly sweeping the world by storm.

Terabeam Capabilities, the Realist/Pessimist View:

Hi Jack,

Here's an article from Lightreading that seems authoritative. I've not seen a refutation of these claims from any TerrorBeam champions, so I still don't know how accurate any of this is. Caveat Emptor might be the best subtitle for "The Truth about Terabeam"...
