Don't forget the "Communism" part.

Communism is dead. I understand that anything less than a "freely elected" leader will not open the door to the Cubans, at least in the US. Free elections is something that the Cuban people have earned after putting up with Fidelito for so long.

How such elections are structured and run etc. will be very difficult to carry out, but at least Cubanos should press for it.

Wishful thinking ? well, maybe.

But I don't think the Miami Cuban exile community will ever have the influence in Cuba itself that they think they will.

Under the best of circumstances, the exiles already were facing a hard case to recoup whatever properties they were at stake in terms of "expropiated without compensation".

After their soap-opera performance, in the Elian saga, I doubt they will be capable to gather any important support for their case.

On second thoughts Gina, I think you are right, normal relationships with Cuba are far away still...

Too much visualization [of the paranoia type] going on still... probably on both sides.

<< But I don't think the Miami Cuban exile community will ever have the influence in Cuba itself that they think they will. >>

I disagree. The Miami Cuban exile community is a huge extended portion of their families back in Cuba. The exiles have sent aid to their families back in Cuba for many years. The Cuban people are going to be very thankful for that aid, if Cuba ever becomes a free nation. (A big IF).

Do you feel that the millions of Cubans, who have gotten help from their relatives in Miami, are going to turn their backs on their Miami families, if Cuba ever becomes a free nation?
