"We might see tiny SDMC-based modems the size of a postage stamp, but pagers, cellphone links, GPS readers? We doubt it."......

"But does that matter? Certainly there's an issue of market fragmentation here for Palm, but with Handspring shooting up the retail charts, it's building itself a sufficient userbase to attract peripherals vendors into supporting Springboard. Sony, meanwhile, is tenacious enough to push Memory Stick no matter what - just look at its strategy with MiniDisc. Meanwhile, Palm has set in stone the template for future PalmOS licensees to follow. It has selected SDMC and if licensees want to go their own way, that's their lookout. "

The newest SIII Rio

"S3(R)'s Rio Division(TM) SIII today announced it has shipped the Rio 600 -- the highly anticipated and first member of the new family of third-generation Rio handheld digital audio players. [The Rio player is]...to include Future-Proof memory system and pre-loaded music from Mission:Impossible 2."

The CompactFlash card is the most valuable 1" x 1" consumer billboard. The blank silicon is an empty canvas begging to be painted on.

SanDisk should sell CF and SmartMedia packaged specifically for the MP3 market and then preload music montages from upcoming albums or movie soundtracks and collect a small promotional fee.

Glad to see that SIII is finally catching on.
