Father Terrence's fact: the justice system is flawed.

Coulter's fiction: the system is fine as it is.

Father Terrence's fact: innocents have been executed, investigations are pending.

Coulter's fiction: No innocent person has been executed in the past 50 years.

Father Terrence's fact: Statistically, it is logical to extrapolate that innocents are sitting on Death Row right now.

Coulter's fiction: Everyone who is convicted IS guilty.

Father Terrence's fact: It is better to err on the side of caution when an individual's supreme right is at risk, or else this country and what it says it stands for is a farce.

Coulter's fiction: Execute them all, and good riddance.

Coulter seems extremely eager to execute people.

Personally, I don't see the exercise of proving that an innocent has actually been executed too be very relevant. Statistically it is probable, and it is probable that it will happen again. For me, even the possibility of executing an innocent, in the absence of any practical and demonstrable advantage held by execution over the next alternative, is enough reason not to execute.

If somebody could show me a practical and demonstrable advantage I might change my mind, but nobody has.
