He did marry the one he left his wife for. She is the one. As it happens, he had been fooling around quite a lot before this one came along. (So had my friend, as a matter of fact. She had tried to leave him once for a man she was really in love with, but he ran out into the back yard during a snow storm and threatened to stab his eye with a fork if she did. She called N up and said he didn't have on a jacket and was crying out in the snow and might stab his eyeball and wouldn't N come over and make him come inside. So N walked several miles in snow up to his hips and of course by the time he got there the husband was inside and all warm and my friend had said she'd wouldn't leave him.)

Actually, when he left to go with the woman he's married to now, my friend was happy to see him go. Unfortunately, in the meantime the man she loved had made pregnant, and married, a true lunatic. He had to stay with her for their child.

His mother, my friend's mother-in-law, was a piece of work. She used to wash and disinfect all money that passed through her hands, paper and coins both, and ironed the bills. She once told my friend, who was an artist who provided most of the support of the family, that the reason she was a good painter was because stupid people are good with their hands.
