Thanks for the detailed explanations. Here is a scenario that has given me as a investors in qcom some comfort if you want to call it that.Since true 3G as per your own words will be a form of CDMA,be it wcdma or CDMA2000.Although as you said CDMA 2000 is not approved yet which I believe has a lot more to do with politics and big money posturing in the background. If the US had one standard like Europe,I would bet my last penny that CDMA2000 would be the standard of choice but given the fact that TDMA,GSM,CDMA are all currently US standards, you have a split camp which has allowed Europe to push through GSM.

What is to stop Qualcom asking for 10% royalties on WCDMA against 5% on CDMA2000.The recent statement from qcom about higher rates for those who sign late might be exactly what they have in mind. They can always refuse to sign at 10% which in return qcom can request that they remove all qcom IP from WCDMA.That to me puts WCDMA in the grave while CDMA2000 is ready to go.

Is this too much of a stretch or a possibility.

Eric,

Sorry for polluting the G&K thread with generic smart card posts, but I thought this was an interesting link you located...

totaltele.com

[I appreciate your efforts in educating others about smart cards, but still find myself getting lost somewhere in the middle of your informative posts. I am hoping this becomes less problematic as I get educated. Is it just me?]
