Maurice, the comments of your anonymous correspondent are quite interesting, and I appreciate you sharing them. Though the first two paragraphs ("the system works" and "financing issues are overblown") are easy for me to agree with and can be defended without reference to "inside" information, the third bothers me:

Statements like <<The North American launch
produced dismal results in the U.S. and Mexico, but very encouraging take-rates in Canada>> are meaningless without a referent to what expectations the actual results are being compared to. "Dismal" and "encouraging" are adjectives, and subjective. WHO is forming these opinions, and WHAT are they doing about them, and WHY is your unnamed source privy to these opinions (and leaking them to the public, through you)??

<<The Airtouch-Vodafone merger, compounded by ATI's
decision to combine its cellular footprint with PrimeCo and BellAtlantic deprived ATI's Globalstar
subsidiary of fairly critical resources. For example, ATI has an ability to 'mine' its subscriber
base for customers whose use profile suggest that they would be potential GSTRF customer. This
information has not yet been made available because ATI computer resources have been devoted
entirely to merging billing systems with BANM and PrimeCo. >>

These assertions are unprovable, based on the public record. It would be nice to know how credible your source really is.

Maurice: thanks for posting this insightful analysis. I agree that system performance is a non-issue. Financing is ok till 1Q '01, and probably till 3Q '01 with Loral and partners help. That is if the rampup trend is healthy and breakeven is within sight. If not, I believe financing will be an issue.
On to marketing and service providers: Should be no excuses for dismal efforts. They don't seem to have the sense of urgency to make this venture a success. I'm hopeful that they'll see the light by 3rd Qtr and lower prices and introduce a $500 phone. This would turn the negative tide, dramatically increase sales, and put bankruptcy to rest.

I haven't heard you weigh in on your expectations for 2nd quarter MOUs? What do you say oh wise one, what represents good, mediocre, and bad MOUs for the quarter just past??
