Re: Customers always prefer - and a re willing to pay a premium - for Quality...

Link please. My understanding is that AMD flash carries a premium over Intel because it supports more cycles. The premium may be decreasing a bit, as AMD locks in multi-year contracts and Intel tries to scrape out every last short-term penny to make earnings from operations estimates for the quarter.

The only flash failure I've ever seen was in a DEC (OEM Mylex) array controller when the Intel flash stopped accepting updates during a disk addition and the result was a hosed array. The flash accepted half the update after which it would recognize neither the old nor the new drive configuration. And it wouldn't return to the original configuration, either.

It was 24 hours to get a new part FEDEXED in so we threw in 3 AHA2940s instead, but it still took most of the day to reconfigure the server then restore 50+ gig of data from tape.

The crappy flash chip has a big "Intel Flash" logo on it, so there is no doubt who made it.

It's only one data point, but I'd guess it's more direct knowledge than you have.
