I can't find a link, but I believe that I saw somewhere that some chipset lines had been converted to CPUs production (maybe that's where those katmais are comiing from). Another thing. Given that it's contractually obligated to support Rambus, turning a big chunk of its chipset business over to VIA may be the only way Intel can stay competitive as DDR begins to dominates the high end. And Intel won't have had anything to do with the dumping of Rambus - it'll be VIA's "fault". Dan

Like ServerWorks, Intel might be deciding that pushing the Intel architecture is more important than trying to horde the entire chipset market to itself" If you remember back to when Intel entered the chipset business big time, 5-6 years ago, it was to ensure availability of high performance, reliable chipsets so that the processor shipments wouldn't suffer. The fab capacity required to manufacture those chipsets is considerable so why tie it up when viable alternatives are now available? EP EP
