We went out as a threesome and it was fun and very competetive. Yes, someone could have learned a lot from that round (I learned some things), I didn't lose, but I came in 3rd (heheh) but I was just a few strokes back, not bad for a guy who doesn't touch a club everyday. I was thinking of the preponderence of teachings that are mechanical oriented. I picked up a calander that my wife gave me for the office that has a daily golf tip and went thru the next 50 pages. I came up with 4 categories of tips; Mechanical, Mental, Course Management, and Practice. For the category of practice I broke the tips down to whether they were mechanical or mental, heres the result: Mechanical:32 Mental:6 Course Mgmnt:12 It's my belief that there is way too much emphasis on the mechanical portion and not enough on mental. The magic feeling that's there when you JUST know that you're going to sink that 15 foot putt and do it. One of my first rounds that I ever played as a kid with my dad I remember I came to a green and my ball was on the fringe in 9 (I really don't remember how many) and about 30 feet from the hole, a feeling came over me that I was going to sink that putt, and I did. I came away from that experience with the image that I was a great putter. And guess what, that hasn't changed today. The power of the mind is very great, that's were the skills need to be honed even for beginners. Have a good one, I'm feeling inspired for my tournament tomorrow. Thanks Jim
