I didn't appreciate the difference between calling this a "distribution" or a "dividend", although the PALM FAQ's consistently use the term "distribution".

And in the HWP/A spin off, the final info packet I received said "We are effecting this spin off by distributing .3814 of a share of A common stock as a dividend on each outstanding share of HWP....the dividend will be distributed after market close on 6/2/00...".

Seems like these guys use the terms interchangeably. I've now rolled my July COMS calls into August contracts to allow me to benefit from any post 7/27 run up in COMS, on the assumption that, as in the HWP/A case, my COMS options will continue to include the PALM "distribution dividend". I guess I'd better double check this fine point.

The letter you received from your broker is odd. How can there be a final fixed D-ratio before the 7/11 record date when the share counts are finalized? And if so what's the point of the record date?

But either way, 1.5 or 1.5139 is better than 1.46 or less.
