Steve,

Agreed on Via chipset situation. I have no love for this company. I actually have a secret hope that Intel somehow wins the unresolved part of the lawsuit against Via that would prevent Via from selling Athlon chipsets, and later when P6 retires to the sunset, Via would follow it.

Gotta get to 760

Joe

Steve, Re: Opinion.

There is and will not be any DELL deal.

My wife and I on on opposite sides of the fence on this on, she agrees with you, I don't. As I see it, if Dell doesn't come along Dell is the loser, someone else claims his lost opportunities. I expect we'll see Dell but it's far from certain.

Where are Gateway, Compaq, IBM, any major Duron systems?
It cannot beat a Celeron if it doesn't exist.

It always takes too long for new stuff to get to market, the most important thing is that all is "right" with cipset/motherboard/processor when it hits the market. I don't want to see any recalls as happened with Intel and its floating point fiasco a few years back. That sort of thing would do real damage to AMD-it's not yet strong enough to pass it off as Intel did then. Because of this, near perfection must be achieved on releases and that's very hard to do in this world. Takes time!

AMD has been weak since they did not effect the stock split after shareholders voted to increase shares and expected it.

I'm not sure about that, look at the SOX. Look at the drifting of the members of both AMD threads. Lack of information!

VIA chipsets are questionable. I base this opinion that on most benchmarks, the AMD 750 using PC100 and super bypass beats or equals KX133 using PC133.

Agreed, seems they can't get top memory performance out of their chipset, not much difference between PC100 and PC133 in the benchmark tests. Still I think VIA's presence has been an overall positive for AMD this last year, but it could have been better. As for SuperByPass, I don't see any noticable difference in performance whether it set "On" or "Off". Have you noticed any difference on you K7V? I've seen gamers claims that leaving SuperByPass "On" leads to instability in some games, most gamers run with this setting "off".

There is not any SMP Athlon systems on the market eleven months after the Athlon launch.

True, I was disappointed to see Hotrail's efforts cease, but was pleased to see Micron express an interest. Six weeks and perhaps we'll see SMP? I hope so.

AMD better have the 760 chipset soon and the 760MP at the same time. Yes!

If the 760 chipset and Thunderbird cannot compete with a P4, this stock is dead money. Forget Mustang and Sledgehammer.

I think TBird will compete with Willy. Each processor will have its strengths and weaknesses when compared. The press (being the press) will probably fall over itself with Willy hype simply because it's new but TBird will compete and even shine in some areas.

After July 19 I hope AMD produces information outlining their plans; right now, I see AMD adrift, and stockholders wishing on hope. Opportunity is wasting away.

I expect positive forward guidance, we've not been deprived of that in the last year. Did you watch the Annual Meeting Address by Jerry Sanders? He was very good in his Address and in the Q&A afterwards, I watched it a second time about a month ago-very positive and Jerry was very confident. The long dry spells leave lots of time for the imagination explore. I'm looking forward to strong results on the 19th.

BTW, how are you getting along with that 700 Athlon of yours? Still pleased? I'm expecting the delivery of 10 MSI K7T Pro 6330 boards with 700 MHz TBirds late next week or the early part of the week following. I'll let you know what I find.

Kindest regards,
CrazyMan
