Then I open the browser manually and it goes to my desired site.

What version are you using? I've got 5.1 at work but have never tried changing the homepage. I'll give it a try tomorrow. The browser not opening must be a bug. Happens several times a week to me also.

You're right on all counts with MSN. Signing on takes me to MSN and opening a new browser window allows me to go wherever I want. Devious little devils!

thecow, yes, putting a different URL in has no effect. I've asked a news group and consensus was "that's the way it is".

Update on startpage. This worked for me, YMMV (your mileage may vary). After signing on open a new browser window and then get a new homepage. Sign off and then sign back on by clicking the ie icon instead of the MSN icon and it takes me to my new startpage.

ps: I also restarted after assigning my new startpage.
